Selecta Systems Achieves Zero Waste to Landfill
During the recent implementation of ISO14001, one of the areas in which the business believed would help reduce their environmental impact, was the minimisation and management waste. A bold objective of Zero Waste to Landfill was set in April 2010, when 10 tonne of general waste was being sent to landfill, with an anticipated completion by the end of the year.
Selecta Systems leaned heavily on the passion and inspiration of Environmental Representative, Paul Lutwyche and the team, to achieve this magnificent task. Waste streams were identified with appropriate waste receptacles for waste separation activities and minimisation techniques introduced where appropriate. Re-use and recycling were high on the agenda, which aided the reduction of general waste to approximately 1 tonne per month, of which is now being sent to incineration (Waste for Energy). The Zero Waste to Landfill objective was completed and fully operative by the end of July 2010, with cardboard, polythene bagging, plastics, tins, glass, paper etc. all recycled.
Environmental Representative, Paul Lutwyche comments ”To set such a bold objective and fully achieve its target within such a short space of time is testament to the support and commitment of all staff involved. Selecta Systems are committed to being an environmentally responsible extruder and distributor and we therefore make certain we have systems in place to ensure that we are minimising our impact on the planet. We are proud that we have now achieved this.
